Menopause, The Natural Way
Menopause, the age when we undergo change, is a natural process that happens to all women. The perimenopause and menopause period is the stage where our body changes its purpose – from the transition from the ability to create and carry life within us, to returning to being solely responsible for our bodies.
The most important thing to remember is that our bodies are changing during this time. The ovaries stop functioning, and the adrenal glands take over. Estrogen, which was previously produced by the ovaries, will now be produced by the adrenal glands.
Our role is to help the body smoothly transition from producing estrogen from the ovaries to producing it in the adrenal glands.
Like any transitional period, it can be accompanied by difficulties.
However, as with any change, paying attention and caring about the uncomfortable sensations will improve the results – not just for now, but for the rest of your life! Because once the adrenal glands know what to do, they keep doing it.
We hope to live a long and healthy life after the change, so I offer a number of tips here that will help the body go through this phase smoothly.
diet:
not
- Alcohol
- Sugar (for some women – also other sweet foods, including fruit)
yes
- Whole grains
- Omega-3 (such as flaxseed)
- Legumes and seeds
- Berries
Medicinal plants
I consider herbs to be a necessary factor in this transitional period. Below is a list of the most common herbs.
Most herbs are readily available, but I recommend consulting a professional herbalist to tailor the best solution for you and prevent improper use of medicinal herbs.
- St. John's wort
- Black cohosh
- Wild yam
- Agnus Castus
- Red clover
- Valerian root
- Evening primrose oil
- Borage seed oil
- Liu wei di huang wan
- Licorice root
- Valerian
- Mumio
- Equisetum
- Red clover
Some of the above herbs are considered a natural substitute for hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Pharmaceutical HRT is a situation where these plants are chemically replicated, patented, and sold in tablets, patches, or sprays.
Meeting with an herbalist who can tailor the formula that best suits you can save frustration and reduce the chance of switching to pharmaceutical HRT.
Physical activity
Physical activity is essential for transitioning for a number of reasons:
- Maintaining muscle mass reduces hot flashes
- We lose muscle mass during menopause, and activity will help us stay strong as we age.
- Supports cardiovascular health
- Maintains body flexibility
- Helps prevent weight gain
Skin care
One of the most noticeable signs of change is the changes we see in our skin. Here are some tips for maintaining healthy skin and boosting collagen:
- Red light therapy 3-4 times a week
- Using Gua Sha to improve blood circulation
- Daily lymphatic cleansing
- Daily moisture for the whole body with coconut oil
- Daily moisturizing for the intimate area with coconut oil
Navon Naturals
Navon Naturals offers a variety of products that improve the appearance of the skin while balancing hormones, which can ease menopause symptoms.
Emotional health
Finally, it's important to take care of your emotional health. Meditation or creative activity can help us find calm and give the body the peace it needs to function optimally.
I hope this list was helpful. I love hearing from you, so don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or insights!
